Hotel procurement is a crucial part of managed travel programs, with travel managers often evaluating thousands of hotel RFP (Request for Proposal) responses annually. As sustainability becomes a core objective in many travel programs, having a straightforward approach to assess the sustainability of hotel suppliers is more essential than ever. To meet this need, the GBTA Foundation, in collaboration with the Sustainability Committee, has released the new Sustainable Procurement Standards for Hotels.

These Standards serve as an industry-wide resource designed to simplify hotel procurement decisions while promoting responsible travel practices:

  •     Buyers can use the Standards to gain a clear understanding of the sustainability practices of current and prospective hotel suppliers. By working closely with their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) teams, buyers can integrate these standardized questions into their procurement and supplier management processes, enabling them to make informed decisions aligned with their sustainability goals.
  •     Suppliers can use the Standards to communicate their sustainability initiatives more efficiently to buyers, addressing the growing demand for climate-conscious practices.
  •     By using the Sustainable Procurement Standards, organizations can better achieve their sustainability objectives, paving the way for a more resilient future.
